In the beginning, a network of Russian spies that included Katarina Rostova created a new version of Raymond "Red" Reddington, and it was good.

Case Profile for Nachalo

Eight seasons of The Blacklist all come down to this episode, the one with the answers. Red and Liz after arriving in Latvia last time stand at the door of what will go down as one of the more visually stunning episodes of The Blacklist as they enter "The Nest" the originating source of Red's entire operation and how he comes up with the names on The Blacklist. This site is where information is collected as currency and traded for other information on heads of state, leaders of industry etc. It is here at the source that we finally get the pieces put together as to why Red entered Liz's life 8 years ago.

The episode transitions into an interesting documentary style exposition presented to us in black and white by director Kurt Kuenne who was behind the documentary Dear Zachary. During the exposition sequence we learn how Katarina Rostova was brought up in the family business of being a spy, the work she had to accomplish, and her closest friends that helped her along the way.  We learn about Ilya's involvement, Ivan's involvement, but most importantly Tatina Petrova aka "Fakearina" and how she was setup by Dom and Ilya.  All of this leading to the answer that Reddington was created to protect Liz and keep Katarina Rostova hidden. So who is "Red" Reddington, the creation? That is left for you to decide.

Be sure to answer our profiling question of the week: YES or NO. Does this episode confirm that Red is Katarina Rostova? Visit our feedback page to leave a response or call +1 (304) 837-2278.

The Music for Nachalo

Only one song this week for the episode. When we see "created Reddington" step out of the car for the first time we hear "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" by James Brown.

You can hear these songs via the official Blacklist playlist on Spotify or the same playlist recreated by us on Apple Music
